COMMUNITY PARTNERS
The Troy Rotary Club saw a problem which needed to be addressed in their community, children were going hungry on the weekends. To solve this problem the Troy Rotary Foundation decided to start a Blessings in a Backpack program for the children attending Troy Union Elementary. Backpacks of food started going home to the children. In early 2018, the Troy Rotary decided to move the program from National to the Michigan model.
The Troy Rotary Foundation has continued to support the children of Troy Union and serve as the members of the steering committee for the Troy program. With the help of the community, the goal of the Troy Rotary is to expand this program to other schools in the Troy School District, so all hunger-insecure children receive weekend food.

In the first quarter of 2020 we were working on expanding the Blessings in a Backpack program for additional schools within the Troy School District. Dr. Machesky indicated we could expand to any other schools who would like to have the program. We were all set to proceed and then for the protection of the students and the teachers, schools were closed. Read more…
